Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

CUAACD304 - Make scale models

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare to make scale models

  1. Clarify scale model requirements based on relevant documentation, verbal briefs and consultation with relevant people
  2. Identify potential challenges and plan work to minimise risk in consultation with relevant personnel
  3. Select techniques for model making consistent with project requirements
  4. Confirm presentation requirements, including timelines, for final scale models
  5. Confirm equipment, materials and work space requirements
  6. Set up work space and equipment according to safety considerations and organisational procedures

Evidence of the ability to:

identify appropriate equipment and materials to make three-dimensional (3-D) models

establish a safe work space for the use of equipment and materials

use selected techniques and processes to make models that satisfy project requirements

communicate with others during preparation, construction and presentation of 3-D models.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe ways in which model making is used in specific industry contexts

explain common model making processes and techniques, including the physical properties and capabilities of equipment, tools and materials used

outline ways to present finished scale models

list work space requirements for the production of models, including set-up of work space for particular types of work

summarise issues and challenges that arise in making scale models

summarise intellectual property issues and legislation associated with making scale models

explain work health and safety procedures that apply to scale model making.
